I always make sure to drink a few glasses of water in the morning, but 3
days a week, I will add some fresh lemon juice into it knowing the benefits of
lemon water. Drink it first thing in the morning, and wait another 30 minutes to
have breakfast.
Why Lemon?
Lemons are packed with nutrients, including vitamin C, B-complex
vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, and fiber.
1. Supports the immune system
It helps to boost the immune
system and assists the body in fighting colds and flu.
2. Aids digestion
It helps to clean the bowel by
flushing out waste and stimulates the release of gastric juices to aid
digestion. The digestive qualities of lemon juice can also help relieve
symptoms of indigestion, heartburn and bloating.
3. Reduces inflammation
Lemon
will remove uric acid in your joints, which is one of the main causes of
inflammation.
4. Repairs skin
The antioxidants in lemon juice
help to not only decrease blemishes, but wrinkles too! It plays the role as Anti-ageing.
The antioxidant properties help combat free radical damage, which is responsible
for the symptoms of ageing. Actually, Vitamin C is required in the synthesis of
amino acids into collagen. The collagen is to hold the tissue tight and protect
our skin tissue.”
5. Lose weight
Lemons contain pectin, a soluble
fibre commonly found in citrus fruits. Pectin helps stave off hunger as the
fibre creates a feeling of fullness.
6. Balances pH levels
Lemons are one of the most
alkalising foods for the body and a good pH level is essential as too much
acidity in the body can be inflammatory. “Lemon water is very alkalising and
most of us have acidic bodies.
7. Cleanses the urinary tract
Lemon juice is a diuretic,
meaning it encourages the production of urine. As such, toxins are released at
a faster rate to purify the system and keep it healthy. Lemon juice can also
change the pH level of the urinary tract which discourages the proliferation of
bad bacteria.
8. Freshens breath
Lemon juice contains antiseptic
qualities to help kill off bad bacteria in the mouth by acting as a
disinfectant.
9. Protects overall health
Lemon water can also ward off stress
and depression. This is linked to low levels of potassium. High levels of
potassium in lemons can help brain and nerve functioning and control blood
pressure.
10. Promotes healing
Lemon juice is important for wound
healing in the body due to the contents of acid ascorbic, vitamin C. This is an
important nutrient in maintaining healthy bones, tissue and cartilage. It also
calms inflammation in the body.
11. Detoxifies the liver
Lemon water acts as a liver
cleanser by assisting in detoxification. Lemon water can also help control
excess bile flow, decrease the amount of phlegm produced by the body and assist
in dissolving gallstones as well.
12. Cut out caffeine.
Replacing
your morning coffee with a cup of hot lemon water has really done wonders! You
will feel refreshed, and no longer have to deal with that pesky afternoon
crash. You can skip a coffee by having a lemon juice.
